It's Been A Rough Week.

Let me rewind back to last Friday. Jared started his first day of what is supposed to be his two weeks of annual training with the guard. I was not looking forward to this time at all because I knew Jared would be gone a lot and I would be on my own with all three boys. But I was grateful that at least he would be making some extra money that we could really use. I also had Kai's appointment where all the nursing drama and weight loss stuff came up. So needless to say I was feeling a little emotional and overwhelmed but hoping to get through the two weeks. Saturday Jared had a horrible gallbladder episode and ended up leaving guard in the middle of the day because he was in so much pain. We went to the ER and the doctor said it was time to meet with a surgeon to schedule a surgery to have his gallbladder taken out. It was a stressful day, but we left with a referral for a good surgeon and we are just waiting to have our consult with him so we can get Jared taken care of.
Fast forward to Tuesday of this week...I have still been feeling overwhelmed with having three kids and not feeling like I have enough of me to go around. Add to that the fact that I am having to nurse the baby, then feed him formula, and then pump all to turn around and repeat the process two hours later was making me feel like I had no time in the day to even pick up a little or do something with my other two boys. Then Jared started getting this really weird pain in his foot and some mild pain in his jaw. We really didn't know what it was. We thought maybe it was the boots he was wearing for guard or something, but we really weren't sure. We went to bed Tuesday night only to wake up to our bed soaked from Jared's sweat (gross I know) and him shaking with horrible chills. He tried to get up to go to the bathroom and couldn't even walk. All of his joints (knees, hips, elbows, shoulder, jaw) were locked up and really tight and painful. He could barely open his mouth because his jaw was so tight and hurt so bad. I knew something was wrong when he came back to bed and told me "something is not right..." that just really isn't like Jared.
He got up the next day (Wednesday) and tried to go out to guard only to be sent to the Urgent Care where he luckily was seen by our family practice doctor. It was weird, but our doctor said all of his symptoms pointed to tetanus or lock-jaw even though Jared hadn't been exposed to anything or had any puncture wounds that could have become infected. Plus he is current on his tetanus shot. Not really knowing what else it could be the doctor gave Jared a huge penicillin shot and sent him home. Once he got home he tried to lay down and rest and when he got back up 2 hours later he had a fever of 103 and started to vomit. His joints hurt even worse and he could hardly move. We called the doctor back and they told us to go to the ER...of course. So after a quick blessing from Jared's dad we headed to the ER.
Once we got there the doctor was not convinced that it was tetanus that Jared has...so she ran a million really expensive tests. Labs, chest x-rays, strep test, CT scan of his head and soft tissue neck. All those came back negative except his labs were just a little off. So the doctor was worried about the possibility of him having meningitis. So she did a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) which also came back negative. 6 hours later...it was now midnight and they sent us home with the explanation that "they aren't really sure what he has...it's probably a really severe virus of some sort and he needs to follow up with his doctor in the morning..." Oh and they told me that I can't let him any where near the baby....super.
So I got Jared home and into bed and then I set up camp upstairs in the guest bedroom with the baby. He woke up this morning not feeling much better than he was last night. When he got up to get into the shower he started vomiting in the shower. He was in so much pain and so weak that he still could barely stand up. Once I got him to the doctor (our family practice dr.) he agreed that with all the new symptoms Jared is having that it probably isn't tetanus like he had said the day before and that it was a severe virus of some kind. He said that there wasn't any way this is related to his gallbladder issues he has been having cause if it was then his gallbladder enzymes on his labs would have been elevated like they were on Saturday and they weren't this time. So...it's a little frustrating to really not have any answers. I guess we just have to let it run it's course. On top of all of this I worry that the guard is going to have issues with the time that Jared is missing and then of course that is money that we won't be making as well. Top that with all the medical bills we just ran up it just really stresses me out. Plus I just really want Jared to start feeling better....it just worries me so much when he is feeling so miserable.
On a good note...we checked Kaias's weight and he had gained some since last week. So I can stop supplementing at least but I still have to keep up with the meds and the pumping. We will see how that goes.
I guess that's all for now. I am so grateful to have such great family and friends so close that are so willing to drop anything to help us out and that really are concerned for how Jared is doing. It is such a blessing to know that we have so many amazing people so close to us.

Myca, you are a trooper. Just remember it is okay to take the time to sob. After a good cry, pick up your chin and press forward. This too shall pass. Sunday will come. All of the trips to the doctor had to of only been more complicated by having a newborn. I am so very, very sorry. I will say a prayer for you all!
