I'm Feeling Torn.

Literally....well my knee is at least. Last week when we ran our 16 miles for our training my knee started hurting out of no where. I haven't had any problems with my knee before at all (at least not like this). I got home and couldn't really walk on the stairs normal, and it really was hurting me for a good portion of the day. As the week went on though I took it easy and only ran a couple really short runs and it felt pretty normal. Then this weekend we had to run 19 miles. Well...it was pretty much hurting the whole time. So I don't know what to do. We are literally 4 weeks away from the marathon. I feel like I could go and run this race and really improve on my time and achieve a goal that I have set for myself...but not if my knee feels like this. There is no way I could finish 26.2 miles. I don't know if I should keep training and plan to do the full (we have to sign up in 2 days) or if I should just sign up for the half. I have been on the fence the whole time about whether I wanted to do the full or not, but I would like to at least have the option and not be force one way or the other. I am frustrated. I am hoping that if I take this week off and really drop my miles for our long run this week and then really baby my knee that maybe it will feel a little better. I don't know what to do.

On another side note...Kai took a couple steps by himself today. I really think he would already be walking if he didn't know how to crawl. He is just so fast and efficient at crawling that he doesn't really want to walk cause he can get where he needs just fine. Although he does pull himself up on everything and "cruises" along just fine. I guess we will see. I can't believe he will be one in 20 days. It's crazy to me.

Anyway I am sure I will have another update tomorrow for Mother's Day. It seems like I have had nothing to post about at all lately....

have you tired just getting one of those soft braces? I would try one of those and see if it helps it all.

You are so close at this point, I would say go for it. I would try a brace and then take ibuprofin after you run and several times during the day, like after every meal. Cross training might help if you want to bike or swim or something to help you keep moving but stay off your knee a little. Just a thought.

Mica, try yoga for runners by Kimberly Fowler. It's an Iphone/Ipod at. It's a 15 stretching routine that has kept me from getting knee and hip problems and shin splints. I thought I was going to have to give up running my knees hurt too bad until I started doing this after every run. Good luck!
